Engage with your fans and the rest will follow
The other week I wrote a review of the Soap and Glory website – mainly to highlight a great website to my blog readers. Whilst I was doing the review I decided to follow S&G on twitter to see how they were using social media. One day last week I saw them tweet about a fan’s product review so I sent the link to my own review in reply. Expecting nothing but hoping they would be every bit as savvy as their other activities suggest.
I’m thrilled to say they didn’t disappoint and amazing things started to happen. Not only did they actually go and read my review but they tweeted the link to all 1,135 of their followers and sent me a personal message to say thank you for such a glowing write up. Then, the same link appeared on their Facebook page.
The upshot of the story being that if you’re using social media and you’ve built up some followers (or even if you’ve only got one) then it really pays to acknowledge and engage with them – they’ll become your loyal fans and word will spread! Ignore your followers by ‘talking at them’ and they’ll soon grow bored and unfollow you – as I have in fact done with several people just this morning.
So yet again Soap & Glory set a great example with their online presence
